Well, it's happening. After a good few years of speculation, they're coming. Remakes of the beloved Gold and Silver Versions.
Named ポケットモンスター ハートゴールドとポケットモンスターソウルシルバー (Pocket Monsters HeartGold and Pocket Monsters SoulSilver), these games are set for an autumn release. Thoughts of games like these spawned upon the release of the games FireRed and LeafGreen, which were also remakes of older games. Like those, the release date is ten years after the originals'. It has been stated that features new to the main series of Pokémon games will be introduced. Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum had left several hints at the release, sparking quite a lot of discussion amongst Pokémon fans, both opposed and in favour of them. It is known (obviously) that Johto will be featured, however, no such confirmation for Kanto exists.
In a less serious tone, I'd like to start some chatting on this! It's very exciting to finally hear of GSDS coming to fruition. I have to wonder on what will be added... I really like hearing that new features will be added, maybe they'll introduce some of the many things scrapped from the original GSC? Maybe the skateboard... Who knows? Ah, this is so cool, though, and I wouldn't mind if the only new things added were the new Pokémon from Generations III and IV. So... discuss! Thoughts, ideas, questions, etc.
If you were planning on importing the game, considering how great of a game it'll be, I would recommend eBay. Look for sellers with a good feedback rating, and perhaps peruse their comments. Expect to pay between $40-60US, give or take shipping and handling (which usually isn't much). Make sure it's unopened, too. I have a specific, regular seller, so, send a PM my way if you want to try him. Or, general questions at all!

so excited for these I'mma get SoulSilver, it has more Pok?mon I like in it. The names are a little bit weird, but I can live with it 'cause I'm just happy these remakes are confirmed, those Platinum hints were driving me insane. I really hope to see some new Shellos/Gastrodon formes now that they can go to a region other than Sinnoh. I dunno what they'd look like, but even if they were dumb looking it'd be nice just for them to get different formes... I wouldn't mind a yellow Shellos And this means the anime will travel back to Johto! Thank God, I need a reason to watch the anime. Just not gonna be very pleased to see Dawn with a Johto starter, she does not deserve them. Anybody else plan on buying new cards if they make more Johto based cards?

I haven't bought cards in a long time, mainly because they got expensive and I wasn't actually playing with anybody.
I'm glad the game didn't get named Shiny Gold. I'd hate for an official game to share it's name with a ROM hack.
I have to wonder if the Time Machine will make a return. On the one hand, the DS can totally do that sort of thing, as long as it's not the DSi. On the other hand, Diamond and Pearl almost specifically didn't do that, instead permanently migrating Pok?mon.
I might get Heart Gold, as I have the original Silver, but I have a sort-of policy of not playing the same game twice. I don't really go in for reruns, either. Maybe if I complete my Pok?dex or something.

I always get every main series game, at least, in English. :3 (Meaning both are mine, but, not necessarily in Japanese.) In other news, a short clip has been shown. It displays Gold venturing New Bark Town... However, with a Chikorita following him! Will this be a feature returning from Pokémon Yellow? Not much can be said, and perhaps if development time doesn't allow, the whole feature may be scrapped (similar to how many features of Pokémon Battle Revolution seen quite early were). An autumn 2009 release is confirmed. New artwork of starters, clipped by me from Pokémon Sunday: Pokémon Sunday segment (may be removed eventually):

Did you see the pratfall they did part way through? I like how the girl just kneels down. Yep. No need to hurry or anything. It's just a visual gag.

Haha, yeah. That was a good part. =D Also, more news. Gold, obviously, was redesigned. However, Krys is nowhere to be seen! She seems to have been replaced. The new girl has her own, unique design. If you take what happened with Leaf, chances are this new character is named 'Soul' (Leaf was named after the added part in the names of FireRed and LeafGreen, from the game that Red's name wasn't in--Gold's name is in HeartGold, therefore, the one left is SoulSilver). New Sugimori art of Pokémon has been revealed, a practically inevitable update. Also, the 'intro scenes' present in FireRed and LeafGreen seem to have returned (like, when entering Viridian Forest, the pixel art shown before being able to adventure). The Pikachu-coloured Pichu, as I had theorised (but forgot to post), plays some sort of role, in what appears to be Ilex Forest. And, on the topic of Ilex Forest, it would seem Celebi's event remains--the shrine to said Pokémon still exists, and Celebi is incredibly hard to obtain otherwise. Here are the CoroCoro scans revealing this information. Uploaded by a user of BulbaNews (where, I might add, I did not take this information from--it's all from my own study of the scans).

Cool.
Too bad about Krys not returning, especially since her cameos in the D/P anime, but her story is local to the Crystal game, which has a different plot than Gold and Silver. It stands to reason that the remakes of Gold and Silver would have the same story as the original rather than of Crystal, and thus doesn't really need Krys.

Yeah, I was mentioning the oddity of Marina making several cameos in a few chats. Maybe Krys will be having some role, perhaps just as an easter egg. We'll see! And, what would you know? There's more news. It can almost be confirmed your starter remains following you, because it is seen following the character in Azalea Town--which is after the errand Elm sets you on, meaning it doesn't just follow you for that (and, obviously, it follows you beyond New Bark Town). The Pikachu-coloured Pichu unlocks an event with the notched-ear Pichu, as some may've guessed. On the bottom screen, there is not a PokéGear, but the main menu of the games. A new selection screen for your starter is shown, on what seems to be a futuristic, rotating table--perhaps meaning a redesign of Elm's lab is coming (his original table wasn't anything special, unless the wood was really rare). Unrelated to HeartGold and SoulSilver, it would seem having the event Arceus from Japanese movie theatres (and, later, almost undoubtedly, American Toys'R'Us) unlocks at least one thing: being able to hear the legend surrounding the Pokémon from a hiker in Oreburgh Mine. Also, a screen of running across Canalave's bridge is shown, perhaps something in Canalave is unlocked as well--a guess being the library, considering the direction of the character. Uploaded by a BulbaNews contributor: Famitsu scans with more information.

O.o...
I think that when the next version comes out, I will abstain until the 'new' version of that version comes out.
It's complete insanity now...

Too bad about the lack of Pok?Gear on the lower screen. I thought it would've been a perfect fit, personally. It was already thematically similar to the Pok?tch, so it made sense, and there's no reason the Pok?Gear couldn't handle the game's normal menu functions. The World Ends With You has your cell phone as your pause menu.

Actually, something might have to be there once you've closed the menu! The X button is shown to be what opens and closes it, so, perhaps when you close it, you get the PokéGear.

I'm sure he means the next new version. I've been thinking the same thing, really. Each generation is inevitably a trio of games, the third coming out later with cooler features. If you're like me, playing one version per generation is usually enough, so you might as well wait for #3.
Of course, I usually don't, and as a result don't own any #3's. Maybe next time.

Bwee~ Waiting for three takes too long. And, you miss things if you only buy one. I always 'buy 'em all!' XD
Anyways, video with new footage of Slowpoke Well. And another fake fall. (Becky isn't very good at them. XD)

Awesome news this time! Shown on Pokémon Sunday was a new hardware device, yes, hardware, for HeartGold and SoulSilver! Called a PokéWalker, this device displays your Pokémon in monochrome. It works as a pedometre, keeping track of your steps. However, walking gives an added bonus--your Pokémon will gain experience and happiness on it! Not much else is known now...
Video (Becky has a lot on her nails. XD):
Reminders of the Pikachu Mini units come to mind...
