Atticus tried to ignore the odd stares he was getting from Lucario and thought about what to actually say. He was standing beside a sleeping Jessica, pondering whether or not to wake her. He was nervous, and he should have been since he was taking a pretty big risk. 'You have to do it.' He told himself, bringing a hand towards Jessica's shoulder to shake her awake before quickly withdrawing it, backing out. 'Come on, just do it.' He thought. Finally, he did it.
Atticus's hand came down on Jessica and shook her slightly. She awoke, smacked her lips and blinked a few times, before looking at Atticus. "Um, hi." She said awkwardly, finding herself, not for the first time, waking surprisingly close to Atticus. He got straight to the point. "Jessica, I don't want things to be awkward between us." He started, feeling himself blushing. "I really like you and I hope you feel the same way. I'm sorry about what happened earlier but I just want you to know, I don't regret it one bit. If you're not interested, I completely understand but I really hope we can still be friends." He didn't give her a chance to answer, he left quickly. "...What just happened?" Jessica asked Lucario who had moved closer to its trainer.
Atticus walked towards Cairo and shook him awake too. "What?" Cairo asked, obviously still tired. "I need advice." He said, sitting down near Marowak, who was sleeping. Cairo sat up. "About what?" He was clearly interested. Atticus sighed. "Everything..." He got more comfortable. "How do you do it?" He asked, looking into Cairo's eyes. Cairo was confused. "Do what?" Atticus started playing with his fingers. "You and Alison, everything just seems so natural and right. Nothing's ever awkward between you two..." Cairo smiled slightly. "Is this about what happened between you and Jessica earlier today?" Atticus's eyebrows shot up. "She told you? Oh my God and I bet-" Cairo interrupted him. "I saw what happened..." He said, calming Atticus down slightly.
"Look," Cairo started, sagely. "nothing's going to seem 'natural' or 'right' in the beginning, everything's awkward at one point or another. Maybe you should find out what Jessica likes." Atticus nodded. "Ok... Well, what does she like? You've known her longer than I have." Cairo thought about it. "Well, she likes lots of different things I guess. She's, well I wouldn't say clingy, but she likes having meaningful relationships. I don't think she'd want a short, pointless middle school type thing. And I don't think she'd want a repeat of the whole Chad situation, either..." Atticus thought this would be a good time to get some info he desperately wanted to know. "Cairo, who is Chad?"
Cairo sighed. He figured it would be a good time to give Atticus the whole scoop on his former friend. "Chad... He was my best friend." Atticus nodded, he had heard all this before. "I met up with him back when I was going out with this girl named, wait you know who Kyleigh is, right?" Atticus nodded slowly, he didn't know much about her but that was a different story for a different time. "Well anyways. Kyleigh Chad and I traveled alone for a while. It was pretty fun.
"When we were in Hearthome City, in Sinnoh, we met this girl, Sarah Chikara, who instantly crushed on Chad. Things were awkward between them for a while, you know what that's like, but eventually their feelings were mutual and they started going out. Just before we left for SunyShore, though, Sarah stated that she had to leave. By then, the two were in love and that really hurt Chad.
"So, skipping forward a bit, eventually Alison Chad and I started to take on the Battle Frontier. We met Jessica at one of the islands and she started to travel with us. Things weren't instant like they were with Chad and Sarah, but soon enough they both started to like each other. They went out for a long time, and they fell in love. Well, we completed the Battle Frontier and moved on to the Hoenn region. When we got to Mossdeep, things didn't go so well. Chad had traded one of his Pok?mon, a Salamence, and it ended up getting into the hands of this kid Joel, who no one liked. Chad got in this whole fight with Joel in an attempt to get his Pok?mon back and he ended up in jail. We had no idea what was happening at the time except a few rumors that were spreading. Well wouldn't you know it, Sarah bailed Chad out of jail and he ran away with her.
"Just like that, with no warning at all, my best friend, the guy who I'd spent a good portion of my life traveling with, left us all. It hurt each and every one of us in different ways, but it really affected Jessica. I'm really not sure what to think of him anymore. Are you supposed to judge someone based on that one thing they do wrong or for all the other things they've done? Chad's changed, as far as I know. He's not the best friend he was to me, and I don't think anything he'll ever gain that title back." Cairo sighed. "That's Chad."

"So what does that mean for me and Jessica?" Atticus asked expectantly, "I'm not entirely sure. On one hand, I feel like she wants desperately to forget about Chad, and move on. See, the thing is, she and Chad never officially went out though, and I don't believe that she wants that again. What I mean to say is that I don't think she wants another situation where she isn't clear and theres no closure. It was clear she and Chad had feelings for one another, but nothing ever became official like myself and Alison or me and Kyleigh" He concluded before being beckoned into another answer, "So what should I do if I like her...?" Atticus asked bluntly. Cairo looked at him silently for a moment, their entire situation was bathed in yellow from the either oncoming or descending sun, he couldn't tell at this point. He put a hand to Atticus' shoulder, "Ask her what you two are. Ask her out, even, if she says no, she says no but she'd never let it be weird between herself and one of her friends regardless. If she says yes..." he ended inconclusively, "If she says yes?" Atticus asked, looking to Cairo deeply, "Well if she says yes then God knows she'll like you a lot more than she ever did Chad. That'll be a progressive accomplishment for us all. Go ask her out, Atticus" He concluded before falling back against the wall and sealing his eyes.
Atticus sighed heavily before ascending to his feet once more, and swallowing soundly.

Atticus walked slow, he was in no rush whatsoever to do what he was about to do. He was nervous, scared even. Togetic noticed her trainer and began to walk beside him. "Hey." He said, trying to make small talk. "Excited for the festival?" Togetic could tell she shouldn't let Atticus be distracted so she flew off, landing near Cairo in an attempt to get attention.
Jessica had been trying to get back to sleep, and Lucario had beat her to it. The Pok?mon lay asleep on a chair while Jessica shifted uncomfortably with her eyes closed. "Jessica?" Atticus said, feeling more nervous than ever. He decided to be blunt. "Do you wanna be my girlfriend?" He didn't like how he had worded it but it was said and done and there was no taking it back. Jessica seemed surprised by his bluntness, and she could definitely tell he was nervous.

Jessica nearly passed out. What she was fearing... yet craving... happened. She figured, due to Atticus' previous behaviour, she'd have only moments to answer. She didn't know exactly how to tell, so she sought the simplest way: experience. She moved upwards towards Atticus, wrapped her arms around his shoulders, and kissed him. It was sort of odd, at first, but it quickly just seemed 'right'. Jessica, noticing it, released, face scarlet. She gulped a breath, and said it. "Yes."

Atticus smiled. Things didn't seem as awkward now that they were going out. He could have kissed her again but he didn't. He looked over to Cairo who was smiling and absently stroking Togetic, trying to pretend like he hadn't been watching the whole thing. "So, uh, what do you want to do?" Atticus asked Jessica, figuring since they were now going out they should probably do something together. "Um, I don't know, I'm kinda still tired." Atticus laughed. "Oh yeah. I think we all are. How about we give my mom our presents now and then we can all get some rest?" Jessica smiled. "Sounds like a plan."
The new couple walked confidently, hand in hand, towards Alison and Cairo, who were now conversing, and told them of their plan. "Lead the way." Jessica said as trainers left the room. Atticus stuck his head back in for a second. "Exeggutor," He said to the Pok?mon who was fighting with itself. "Show the others back to my room."
The party was dying down a bit. People were leaving but a fair amount still remained. "Mom," Atticus said, spotting his mother alone. Thora Dosser looked up, her large eyes looking around for her son. She spotted Atticus and smiled. Atticus smiled too, trying to look kind. "We wanted to give you our presents." He said, reaching into his pocket for Machamp's pokeball.
"Presents? Oh, you know you didn't have to." Thora fibbed politely. Her eyes lit up as she saw the pokeball Atticus held. "Oh my," She said, bringing both her vainy hands to her chest in surprise. Atticus laughed and put on a cheesy smile. He handed her the pokeball. Thora seemed to study it for a while before she aimed it towards the ground and flicked her wrist silently. The ball cracked open and white light hurled itself from the pokeball before taking the form of a many armed Pok?mon. "Oh my!" Thora repeated, quite pleased. "Well this is just," She said, looking at her new Pok?mon. She never finished that sentence. "Thank you very much, sweety." She said, hugging Atticus and kissing him on the cheek. She returned Machamp and set the ball aside before looking to Atticus's friends expectantly.

Alison was next and stepped forward with a pokeball. She opened it to show a small Poliwag. "Its not much, but here." She said to Atticus' mother and then handed her the pokeball. She smiled and stepped back, letting the other two give their gifts to Thora. Vulplix, being her only Pok?mon out, jumped into her arms and she stroked the fire fox Pok?mon.

"Here, Atticus mentioned you may be putting in a water pool for Pok?mon or something to that effect, so.." Cairo began while he rummaged through his pocket before revealing and expanding a Pokeball. The ball cracked open and Thora's eyes began to glow, as Cairo's heart sank. "Squirt?" Squirtle looked around questionably, looking to Thora's vainy hands, and make up shrouded face, then turning and running to Cairo and grasping him by the leg. "Hey dude, I'll be back, I promise. She's just going to...look after you for a while, cause, you see, I can't carry more than six Pok?mon with me at a time its illegal. I'll be back, Squirtle, I promise" Cairo told his Pok?mon affectionately as tears grew in Thora's eyes at the situation, while Atticus rolled his eyes. Thora expressed vehemently her appreciation before looking expectantly to Jessica.

"Here's one Pokémon..." Jessica said, retrieving Staryu's ball. She then pulled out her laptop, and quickly typed in her PC access, and got Azurill's ball. "And here's the other!" Jessica said, smiling. She tossed the two balls, Azurill's a little more reluctantly, but let them both out for Thora regardless. "And yeah, they're for your water thing, too." Jessica said, smiling, and handing Thora the two balls. "So yeah, happy birthday!" Jessica said once Thora accepted her gifts, who thanked Jessica in a similar manner to the way she had thanked Cairo. By now, even more people had left, a few of them actually stopping to wish Thora a last 'Happy Birthday' as well. "So, what's next on our agenda?" Jessica asked. She giggled some, she was having a perfect day.

"Thank you all so much," Thora said, smiling immensly, a smile that to only Atticus seemed fake. To him, his mother didn't display any emotion. He could never tell what she was really feeling, if anything. Thora looked once more to the Pok?Balls that contained her Pok?mon, who had all been returned. "If you want," She said, leaning in and smiling as if she was about to tell them some big secret. "You guys can take these Pok?mon out to the Aqua City." Everyone seemed puzzled. Atticus was the only one that seemed to sort of know what she was talking about. His face suddenly lit up with rememberence. "Oh! That's what it's called, right? The underwater thing." Thora nodded. She released her water Pok?mon, not releasing the Pok?mon Atticus had given her, and the Pok?mon looked to their new trainer. "Follow them, sweethearts." The Pok?mon replied by reciting portions of their names, each one with a sense of confusion in their tone of voice. They couldn't quite understand why they were being told to go to one trainer and then another and then back to the other one, but they followed anyways. Thora gave directions to Atticus, telling him the general area of where the 'Aqua City' was located. Atticus wanted to sleep more than anything, but he figured him and his friends could have a quick look before turning in for the night. "Uh, yeah. I guess follow me." He said as he started to jog off slightly in the direction of the large pool.

Atticus becokoned his friends forward, out the door as they were followed by all the Pok?mon they had captured recently, spare Machamp. "So wait" Cairo began as the door behing closed affirmingly, "Where exactly are we going here?" He asked as their steps became more rapid, "Its this cool underwater place" Atticus offered, "and..?" Alison asked before he shook his head, laughing softly, "You'll just have to see when we get there" he concluded.
The group conversed lightly as their strides carried them behind Atticus to a few buildings, and a cliff face before a massive body of water, where light seemed to eminate from, even in the increasing darkness of the Kanto night. "This is it..." Atticus said as they finally drew close enough to recognize it, at least somewhat, for what it was.

Jessica remembered she couldn't swim in this pool, for she had no swimsuit anymore. And, she decided to make it a known fact. "Just to let you guys know, I can't swim... Y'know, that incident..." Jessica said, bearing an uneasy face, she loved swimming. Jessica yawned, and knelt down next to the Pokémon that were no longer hers. "But you two have fun." She said, petting them slightly before they made their way towards the illuminated water. Jessica stood back up, and watched as her friends' former Pokémon mingled with her own two former Pokémon. It was a bit hard on Jessica, thinking of the giving away of the Pokémon, but she knew it was to make someone happy, the mother of her friend... now, boyfriend. Jessica then yawned again, and automatically stretched her arms in response. "Sorry, just really tired." Jessica said, voice low due to the same reason. "So, uh... Is today done? I'm exhausted." Jessica started, briefly interrupted by a yawn from Atticus. "And apparently so are you." Jessica joked, leaning slightly on him.

"Hah, yeah I am." Atticus said truthfully. "Let's just check this thing out tommorrow." He yawned once more. "OK." Jessica said, squinting her eyes shut and grinning wide. The new couple awkwardly held hands as the group of four headed inside. "So the Toge Festival is tommorrow." Atticus said casually. "We can head there early, I'm sure it'll be fun." His friends didn't seem as excited as he was. "Maybe it'll be fun for you, you have a shiny Togetic. We don't have anything from the Togepi line..." Jessica said, but not rudely. Atticus laughed slightly but he was actually thinking about it. Maybe it was a bad idea to make his friends go to something they clearly wouldn't enjoy as much as him. He opened the door that lead to the stairs to his room. The four descended into the large area and took to their own spots. Atticus's Pok?mon were released and they started to fall asleep.

Cairo's eyes were faced with a nascent versimilitude, they could hardly force themselves open any longer. A glossy curtain hung over the now painfully opened sensory holders, and once he saw an even remote oppourtunity, he collapsed to the floor, dismissing any and all pain and letting a pitch black room, left in that state by a similar firmament that implied the time of day, carry him into a deep slumber.
He found himself racing in dreams that quickly became more and more disturbing with what seemed like each, no longer fleeting, moment. "Alison!" he found himself breaching through a wave of heat, awakened, doused in a coat of sweat that was indictive of the terrific fear that had engulfed him. As pounding beats eminated from his heart, accompanying sporadic breaths lead him to the realization that the nightmare had frightening him so badly, because it had been a long time since he had felt close to the unfortunate co-star to his protagnoist throughout most of his dreams. "God" he mustered through quivers as he fell, apprehensive to the carpeted ground.

Jessica found, by feeling aimlessly in the dark, what seemed to be a mattress. Pressing on it confirmed that it was one, so Jessica took to rolling into it, grabbing and wrapping an already present blanket around her as she situated herself in the bed's middle. However, she felt the pillow under her feet, causing her to momentarily leave her restful position to switch the direction in which she lay. Finally finding a comfortable pose, she quickly drifted into what could only be described as a rough sleep. Despite not technically being awake, thoughts of reality still swarmed her mind, things as trivial as her current lack of a swimsuit to things as important as her new commitment to Atticus Dosser. Luckily, her brain was in 'optimist-mode', seeing how she no longer had to keep in her emotions of attraction to this boy, and that said-boy had mentioned that swimsuits were sold 'everywhere' there. After several of these 'conflicts' within her mind, she was finally able to drift into complete unconsciousness. Occasional thoughts of various problems still lingered, but now in various forms of dreams. Nothing seemed too hard to overcome, yet, things kept coming...
Jessica was unknowingly making the occasional grunt or mumble in the real world, as well as randomly flipping over on the mattress. After quite some time of this, several hours perhaps, she finally fell out of the mattress. "Ou--!" She started to scream, before thinking of how the others were probably still sleeping. Yet, something was a bit off... her closed eyes presented a red tint, something only available when a source of light was present. Slowly, or at least seemingly to herself, she opened her eyes, seeing a bounty of light which could only mean it was sometime during the day. The others had seen her fall, and upon realising this, her cheeks instantly were dyed a colour almost matching cherries. "Morning all." She quickly inserted, shooting her arm behind her head, and not wanting the topic of her rather uneasy night to come up.

Alison was already up, dressed, had cleaned her wounded and was sitting, brushing Vulpix when Jessica made her outburst. "You okay?" She asked her friend as she and her Vulpix gave the newly awakened trainer confused and amused looks. Vulpix walked over, sniffed Jessica, tilted her head and walked back to Alison before she curled up in her trainer's lap.
