Her finger depressed the button that sat on the center of the ball she pulled from her bag that say beside her on the colloseum floor. Buzzers were going off in the background as a "1" finally concluded them, as well as the female trainer's thought processes. "Now!" She called as her arm extended as far as it could upward, though her eyes remained on her opponent across the battlefield. She was slightly intimidated, this trainer had quite a history, he'd attained each badge from each established gym circuit in the world, and had done well with Elite Four challenges in the past, but with a bead of trickling from her forehead passed, so did all thoughts but that of just how to beat the Pokémon that opposed her on the field now, adjacent to her Scizor who looked as stern as she, armed with the knowledge of the opponent's Pok?mon, weakened slightly already from earlier battle, prior to their both resorting to their last Pokémon.
"Agility!" She called out as the Pokémon began darting around, dodging a flying bone that tore across the field, just missing her Pokémon and herself as she threw her body backward awkwardly, fluttering her dress before she regained her composure. "X-Scissor!" She hollared as her Pokémon hovered above the opponent now, while its Pokémon was still disarmed without the implement that was its primary means of attack. "Scizor!" the Pokémon called as it appeared seemingly out of nowhere, breaking its agility and crossing its glowing claws that came crumbling down atop the small Pokémon who, upon its trainer's order, countered with a headbutt.
The attacks collided and for a second, equal pressure applied and no clear victor emerged, until the opposing trainer drew a smirk across his face. "Sciz!" The Pokémon ululated as the bone had swerved its way back toward the Marowak that had thrown it earlier, and knocked Scizor from its X-Scissor composition and to the ground hard, only to recompose its vision to look at an oncoming Earthquake attack, right atop its own body.
"Scizor! Agility, get out of there!" The girl cried before a deafening sound shattered the ears of the onlookers, an entailment of an incredible attack that shattered the ground and billowed smoke, shrouding the scene. "Night Slash!" She called. Nothing had happened and the visibilty was still poor for everyone who looked on nervously, until at long last two purple streaks shown dimly through the smoke and left a sound that rivaled swords cutting through flesh ringing out before Marowak came careening from the smoky center of the battlefield.
Her heart stopped, and her confidence was regained as she realized she truly was as ready as her opponent for this battle. "Wing attack!" She ordered as Scizor too, leapt from the smoke, leaving a trail behind him as his incredible speed lead him to swipe Marowak from within its descent toward the ground with wings glowing, and incinerating all that would touch them. "Bone Club, Marowak!" cried the male trainer across the field before a resiliant Pokémon mustered the strength to pound its bone against the wing of Scizor, and leveraged itself enough that it could leap to the Pok?mon's back. "Bone Club again, get Scizor on the ground!" He called once more as Marowak took its bone in both arms, raised it in pictureque fashion above its head, and rocketed the implement directly into Scizor's back with unparalleled swiftness, precision and ferocity. "Sciz!" The Pokémon called before it crashed back into the ground, again, shattering the battlefield beneath it, and getting slightly entangled its large, mangled shards. Marowak landed, one foot on the Pok?mon's back, one kicking backward looking almost triumphant, appealing to the audience, giving itself a confidence boost and enfuriating its opponents.
"Wing attack!" The female trainer ordered as an understandably exhausted Scizor's wings began to glow, throwing Marowak from its feet, but doing little more. "Now, agility, on top of the score board, then use roost!" She ordered as Scizor took a deep breath. "Headbutt!" The opposition ordered once more as Marowak leapt from its feet and positioned its body horizontally in the air, aerodynamically appropriate, but crashing harshly to the ground narrowly missing a Scizor whose heart was pounding, and adrenaline rushing.
Its keen senses were enough to catch itself from agility to precision roost atop the immense scoreboard, high above the ground, where it calmed itself, and mustered a powerful healing mechanism from within itself.
"Bonemerang!" Scizor could make out, softly in the distance, knowing it would take a moment for Marowak to recover from its self-inflicted damage. Thoughts raced through its head, running almost quicker than the intelligent Pokémon could recollect. And after Scizor's female trainer's breathing became more and sporadic, and she began apprehensivly shaking, not knowing precisely when to call off the roost attack, its eyes opened and it leapt from the Scoreboard, catching the sun behind its back, and easily dodging the projectile from below. "SCIZOR!" It cried before its entire body became englufed in a breathtaking blue light and rocketed its own body at unfathomable speed toward the ground. Marowak's eyes were still focused above, but blinded slightly by the sun, "Marowak dodge it!" Its trainer cried, in vain as Scizor's trainer fell to her knees, holding herself tightly within her arms as she watched an explosion of light collide from a beam that trailed from the sky and collided with a sprinting Marowak.
A blinding flash of light arose and everyone onlooking glanced away, protecting their sight, before shortly thereafter the sound of the impact rolled out and into the spectator's stands, nearly deafening the crowd as well.
The smoke cleared after a few moments as both trainers slowly regained their composure, looking on wordlessly, as Scizor's claw was the first thing seen, held high above the smoke, and brandishing Marowak's bone that had failed to make contact, even on its return to Marowak. As more smoke cleared Scizor's full figure became visible, and visibly at the breaking point as it panted heavily, looking down on an unconscious Marowak that was seen moments later, prior to the crowd's ear shattering applause. "What a battle!" Sounded the MC over the mic, sounding as astonished as the female trainer, who ran to her Pokémon fighting tears of joy in her eyes, "In an unbelievable upset, the new championship holder of the Hoenn League, Phoebe Caulfield, has defeated previous champion Cairo Whitter, ladies and gentlemen!"
Marowak became no more than red luminescene before being returned to its Pokeball, held by Cairo as he approached Phoebe, casually kicking up light dust and fragments of the battlefield concrete behind his feet before he reached her, smiling, "Nice work, I felt like it'd happen with you someday" he said as he nodded to the eighteen-year-old girl. She looked up from a tight embrace with her Scizor, and stood smiling, squinting slightly and cheeks slightly inflated, "Thank you, Cairo" she offered before extending her hand, which he shook and nodded toward prior to his turning his back, throwing one hand to a back pocket and striding off respectibly, while Phoebe stood amongst a demolished battlefield, in a flood of applause and good feeling, all gradually enhancing every possible blissful emotion she posessed.
The runaway girl who'd been nothing more than a laughing stock, a dissapointment, a loner, and a stranger to the world of success had finally achieved the only dream she'd ever envisioned.
