((this story starts right after the battle with Brendan in Viridian forest. A short fanfic to setup the idea for the rest of my RP))
Taylor reached Viridian in no time. There he headed straight for the Pokémon center and reported who he was, why he was here, and what happened in the woods. Nurse Joy responded by calling up Professor Oak, and sending the information on to him. Joy turned to Taylor.
"He want's to speak to you,"
"Thanks," replied Taylor, not exactly sure who "he" was "Hello?"
"Hello, is this the boy from Pewter?"
"Uh, yeah..."
"My name is Professor Oak, I don't suppose you know much about me, do you?"
"A little," responded Taylor, remembering the name from a television program.
"Well, I've heard you've met the Squirtle that you were supposed to deliver?"
"Yeah,"
"Good, now stay there, I'll be in Viridian within the hour." Oak hung up the phone abruptly, and was there in just thirty minutes.
Oak examined the Squirtle, and explained that this Pokémon was a stray, being brought to Viridian to be put up for adoption.
"But..." added Oak "I think it would be better off with you, if you're up to it."
"Um... sure," replied Taylor, a bit surprised.
"I understand that there is a Pokémon gym in your home town, you should consider challenging it."
"Uh, yes... sir,"
An hour and a half later, Taylor was home, and in time for supper, too!
Everyone was gathered around the small table, Taylor's younger sister, Melissa, was the first to speak:
"So what happened in Viridian?" she asked.
"Um..."
"Friend told me that someone saw that someone saw that old professor guy in Viridian, did you get to meet him?"
"Of course not!" Taylor chuckled, gave a smile, and went up to his room, the pokeball felt like it was was burning a hole in his pocket.
The next day, Taylor woke up early and hurried down stairs, he took out a bowl, filled it up with some Pok?mon food, and released the little turtle Pok?mon in his pocket.
"Squirtle!" declared the water turtle happily.
"Sssshhh!" whispered Taylor between clenched teeth. He glanced up at the stairs nervously, waitng for someone to come down and discover his secret. He was lucky, nobody came, this time. Taylor withdrew the Squirtle when it finished and let Totodile have his breakfast aswell. About thirty minutes later, the rest of his family started flowing down the stairs.
"Mom, I've gotta go now." Taylor said shortly after breakfast.
"So soon?"
"Yeah,"
"Well alright, but don't be too long!"
"Okay,"
Taylor stared at the Pewter city gym, wondering what to do. He finally stepped inside. It was pretty dark and a ton of rocks, suddenley, the lights flickered on. In the center of the gym stood Brock, the gym leader.
"So, the professor called me up and told me of a talented young trainer, I'm assuming it was you?"
"Yeah!" replied Taylor, suddenley knowing what to say "And I'm about to win my first gym badge!"
"I doubt it," laughed Brock, reaching for a pokeball "But I accept your challenge! Go Geodude!"
Taylor loked at the Pok?mon across from him, a rock with arms? He sent out Totodile to battle it.
"Geodude, tackle!" the rock raised itself up and went flying.
"Totodile, jump and bite!" Totodile lept over the half ground type and chomped down on it's arm. Geodude flailed around, but the water Pok?mon held on tenaciously.
"Geodude, use rollout!" Geodude obeyed and rolled quickly across the ground as if it were a wheel. Totodile was repeatedly trampled and finally released it's grip.
"Now! Rock throw!" Geodude jumped up directly above it's opponent and started diving down.
"Totodile! Water gun!" Totodile look up and sprayed a jet of water at Geodude, who let out a groan and fell against the wall of the gym, knocked out.
"Onix, go!" a huge rock serpent sprang forth in a burst of light and lunged at Totodile, who was too weak to continue.
"Squirtle, let's go with bubble!" the turtle appeared and launched a mass of bubbles from it's mouth, stunning the large snake. But Brock would not be beaten so easily.
"Onix! Dig!" the Pok?mon obeyed and launched itself under the ground, then came up forcefully on Squirtle, who was knocked into the air with a shout of surprise.
"Now catch it and use bind!" Onix coiled squirtle in it's massive frame. squeezing the life from it.
"Still think you're gonna win this one?" laughed Brock. Taylor could see that squirtle was quickly weakening, but suddenley, he had an idea.
"Squirtle, hang in there! Withdraw and bubble at the same time!" Squirtle brought it's head, limbs, and tail into it's shell, then released a wave of bubbles. The attack came out every opening in the little turtle's shell, pummeling Onix from every direction. Onix released it's grip and fell to the ground, Taylor had won.
Over dinner Taylor for once was the first to speak.
"Guy's, I've been thinking,"
"About what?" asked his Mother
"Pok?mon..."
"What about 'em" asked his mom again, this time with a sort of gleam in her eye.
"Well, what if I became a trainer?" he asked, bracing himself for the no.
"Of course!" she answered happily.
"Wait, what?"
"What do you think we got you Totodile for?"
The next morning, he said his goodbyes and headed out. But someone was there to stop him.
"Wait!" it was Melissa "I want... to come with you!"
"What?"
"I want to get stronger and go on an adventure and oh god I just wan't to go with you!" there was no answer left but yes. they both set out together. With their combined efforts it took them no more than a day to get to the end of Mt. Moon. This however, was not the most difficult obstacle towards Cerulean City.
"Hey you!" called an angry voice "Stay where you are!" a man on a motorbike, accompanied by some other bikers.
"What.... do you want?" asked Taylor, a hint of fear in his voice.
"Empty yer pockets!" the leader demanded, releasing a threatening looking Weezing and Crobat. Others released their Pok?mon, too, Machamp and Pinsir also stared angrily at the duo.
"Get away from me!" Melissa shouted, releasing her Geodude. Taylor did the same, calling out Totodile and Squirtle.
"Hah, like that'll stop us!" laughed the leader "Get 'em"
Suddenley a blur of speed from out of nowhere trampled the Pinsir, Machamp followed. The blur then circled around and tackled Weezing. The Bikers were distracted and panicking.
"Now!" called Taylor, realizing the opportunity. Geodude, Squirtle, and Totodile easily subdued Crobat. The Bikers fled and Melissa sighed with relief.
Suddenley, the fast moving blur turned and charged directly at the two travelers. Frozen with fear, all they could do was watch. But just as suddenley as it appeared, it stopped, right in front of them. As the dust settled, a lone Tauros stood before them. Taylor, for reasons he didn't quite understand, reached out and slowly stroked the wild bull's head. On his left horn, a prominent scratch, a badge of honor from a previous battle. And the Pok?mon's eyes, they were such of a madman, filled with anger and distrust. So why now had it helped them, why was it so calm. Abrubtly, the Pok?mon snorted and ran off. The road to the city was clear, and so the two travelers continued on thier journey. They were ready for anything, and this readiness would be put to the test time and time again as they continued.
