Davis was more than a little shocked at the offer. After hearing Cairo's brief summary of his past, he could tell that an opportunity to travel and learn from someone so experienced was a rare privilege. Offers like this didn't happen every day. Or maybe they did, but Davis didn't want to risk it.
"Wow," Davis managed, "That sounds awesome. I guess I'm not really doing anything after this." He was doing a mental walkthrough in his head right now of his room at the inn, trying to remember if he left anything there. Besides a towel he had been planning on stealing, he had all his belongings with him in his backpack. "If you really meant it, I'd love to come along." Davis smiled for the first time in a while. "When were you thinking of going?"

Cobblestone was becoming grass, and businesses turned to residences as the room Cairo rented in his landlord's house became illuminated, light bouncing from its exterior windows. "I think," he began, head turning from that window to his new friend, "we're going to shoot for leaving on the late ferry. Sevenish, I think it is. So pretty shortly."
The four trainers walked up an absurdly steep staircase, creaking and looking poised to collapse until they reach its peak and entered Cairo's apartment. "It's nothing special, but it's got all hardwood floors, log walls, and a lot of light through the windows, so I like it. In the summer you can catch really great breezes through here," he justified as he jogged around, grabbing clothes from drawers, toiletries from a small bathroom, his Pok?dex, Pok?Nav, badge cases, small amounts of food, Pok?Food, and money. He had rushed himself into brief breathlessness while his eyes scoured the room for anything he may have forgotten. After a quick assessment he approached a window with a small, porcelain urn sitting in its sill, adorned with paintings of the ocean on it. He ran his pointer and middle knuckles along its top softly and briefly, closing his eyes and nodding before offering an, "I'll be back soon," quietly.
Dani pouted her bottom lip and ran her hand along his arm as Cairo approached the trainers once more. "I don't think it makes much sense for me to go down to the docks with you. I promised my mom I'd be back by six, so I'm already late," Dani said, calmly, if disconcertingly.
Heat welled up in Cairo's throat as he dropped his small backpack to the ground, throwing both arms around her tightly, unrelentingly, and jostling her around a bit. "I love you so much, Dani. I know we were supposed to spend the week together. But we'll get our time soon. We'll see each other soon, okay?" "Yeah," she responded, smiling and sniffling, looking in off directions, "sounds good, Whitter."
Cairo kissed her briefly on the cheek, backed her up to arms' length and stared at her momentarily. His eyes climbed all over her face, from shortened locks to lurid, refulgent eyes. He released her then, throwing his right hand to her forehead, ruffling her hair a bit before he turned to the other two trainers in the room.
"I think that's everything I need. We'd better sprint if we want to get tickets," he offered before Davis and Dekota bid farewell to Dani, and took off, jogging down the steep staircase.
Dani stood for a moment, surveying her friend's apartment, watching dust particles play on light waves emanating from the windows, before she, too, took her leave.

Dekota took off behind his two new found partners as they steadily jogged towards the docks. He was amazed how fast his life could improve. One moment he was lost in an unknown land, and the next he was on his way to carve out his own path in yet another new land.
Speeding up to catch Davis, Dekota said, "This is pretty crazy, isn't it? We're probably going to be going after gym badges together and the three of us barely even know each other. Funny the way things work out, aren't they?" Cairo looked back and smiled to Davis and Dekota, probably having heard a similar conversation several times during his journeys. "Yeah, this is pretty crazy," replied Davis. Dekota smiled back, finally feeling his dreams of adventure coming real.
The three finally made their way to the docks, seeing the last boat to Sinnoh being prepped to leave. "Better hurry up, looks like we're cutting it close here," said Dekota as he helped Ralts readjust on his shoulder.

It pained Davis to spend most of his remaining money on another boat ride. Now that he was leaving Oldale he was going to have to earn his money honestly. But he didn't care this time, because at the moment life was good. As he boarded the boat with Cairo, Dekota and Ralts, he felt happy, like he was on his way to becoming the person he always dreamed of being when he grew up.
In their rush to catch the boat, Davis hadn't even been sure of what town they'd be arriving at. He fished his ticket out of his back pocket and saw that their next destination was Canalave. It was going to be a long ride and Davis figured he'd use this time to get to know his new friends. "So Cairo," Davis started, turning to face him. "You've been all over the world. I bet you have some great stories to tell." The sun was setting in the background as they drifted farther from the shores of Hoenn. Dekota and Davis listened excitedly to Cairo's tales of adventure in faraway lands, until the moon was out and the only other sounds besides their own were the crashing of waves against the hull of the ship.
