An over excited wheelchair-borne Hitmonlee sped into the streets coming out of a Pok?mon Center, doing donuts into the street, barely avoiding several cars. Crazy Legs managed to launch himself from a skateboarer's ramp, soaring over what could have meant another few months in rehab. He was finally free again, his own man once more, and an aptly named Companion to look out for him as he would for her.
Anyway, after his commotion had come to an end, he made his way peacefully to the Pok?Center's door and waited in meditation for his partner. However, being it was, for once, hard to concentrate with his new excitement, he thought about expanding his team instead.

Companion the Gardevoir flew after Crazy Legs, her "skirt" fluttering in the breeze. It was exhilarating being out of the Pok?mon Center after so long, but also frightening. Especially since her new charge/traveling companion was putting his proverbial neck on the line by scooting about like a cub and performing death-defying stunts. When the differently-abled Hitmonlee finally came to a stop, she teleported over to him and stooped over to catch her breath.
"It's a wonder you don't need a license to drive that thing," she panted. Then she looked up, noticing where they were, and practically fell over. "We're right back where we started?"

"Hai." The Hitmonlee opened his eyes quickly as he responded, for whatever dramatic effect it may have given. Seemingly ignoring her tiredness, Crazy Legs asked, "do you know where gym rocated?" He looked around, side to side, but at his height disadvantage, he couldn't see much other than busy people in the crowded streets of Goldenrod City.
"Ahso..." He turned to Companion, before letting her respond, "are we enough to beat gym?"

On the streets outside the Goldenrod Gym, an Eevee was performing for a crowd. It looked like it belonged to someone, with an earning attached to his left ear, but there was no trainer around. It looked slightly thinner than normal, due to him only eating trace amounts of food every day or so. Yet there was still an energetic and youthful spring to his step, as he put on an amazing show all by himself.
Adel fired a large and slow Shadow Ball into the air. His tail glowing with intense force, he jumped into a back flip, spinning quickly until his Iron Tail smashed into the purple orb. The resulting effect was a dazzling displays of sparks that gently rained down from the sky, like purple snow. Landing smoothly, the crowds applauded with cheers. Bowing his head, the Eevee opened his mouth wide, hoping someone would get the message. A trainer set a fresh apple down by his paws, which Adel quickly began to munch on.

"Well, it only takes one, good Pok?mon to beat a Gym, in my experience," Companion replied. She hovered up a little, looking around for the Goldenrod Gym. Turns out, it wasn't that far away. "But it never hurts to have back-up. Gym Leaders tend to use about three in a match, it's good to have a few so they don't get too tired."
She drifted back down to ground level. With a simple tilt of the head, she said, "The gym's over this way, c'mon."

With a single movement of his two arms, Crazy Legs was gliding towards the gym at a strenuous pace. He stopped short abruptly, however, and simply began to stare at the Eevee who was eating an apple.
He then realized, meals would no longer be provided for him, and it was his responsibility as his own trainer to feed himself, as well as Companion. He thought deep back into the past, to before the incident that left him crippled in the forest, to when he was a PokeChef to be proud of. But what did he cook...?
The Hitmonlee didn't realize that all this time, he was still staring at the Eevee.

Adel was too absorbed in his apple to notice the Hitmonlee who had rolled himself over in a wheelchair. The delicious fruit was too good to look away from and he wanted to savor the meal while he could. After all, the Eevee had no clue where or when his next meal would come. It could be later in the evening or two days from now. It was a sad life, but he couldn't give up on himself. Not while there was chance that he'd find his old family or perhaps make a new one.
As his meal came to a close, Adel looked up to see a Hitmonlee in a wheelchair. It was quite a sight, especially since he was staring right at him. The Eevee felt a little odd, but perhaps he wanted to see a show! Or maybe he had information about his family! His trademark earring was something anyone could recognize him by!
"Hey there, Hitmonlee! What are ya doing? Would you like to see me perform or something? I just got done but if you have some food I could show you my Iron Tail Shadow Shower!"

((Is Adel speaking English, or Eeveese?))
Companion noticed the Crazy Legs had stopped and saw the Eevee he was looking at. She glided over and knelt down for a closer look.
"Aw, what a cute little Eevee!" Companion said, reaching out to pet him. "But you're so skinny... Have you been living on the streets long?"

In flawless Hitmonleese, Crazy Legs said to the Eevee, regardless of Companion's commentary or whatever she may have been saying, "Show me your technique. If together we three defeat the Goldenrod Gym, you shall not go hungry again." The Hitmonlee spoke with such directness and sincerity in his voice, he hadn't even given a single thought to the fact that he might be turned down.

Adel looked at the Gardevoir as it went to pet him. He allowed it, since he wasn't one to turn down a gentle massage of the head. He nodded to her when she asked if he had been living on the streets for a while. "It's been..a week or two. Not that long, but when you lose your whole family who raised you since birth, it's...rough"
Adel then starred at the Hitmonlee for a moment as he spoke. Were those words really said? Never go hungry again. Never again was a long time and the Eevee hated the empty feeling in his stomach. Fight a battle and win free meals? It sounded too good to be true. But he had to take the shot, he had nothing else. After all, when would another opportunity such as this ever appear again? Probably the same time a Mew and Celebi would be found ballroom dancing together.
"Sure thing buddy! My grand finale, coming up!" Focusing hard, Adel split into several after images, using a Double Team to form a circle. They all fired a Shadow ball up into the air, forming a ring several feet above the ground. Following up, their tails began to glow as the "Eevees" prepared for an Iron Tail. As the balls of energy merged into one, the performers took off into the air and swung at the single orb. An explosion covered the air with smoke, which was pierced down the middle by Adel, using his Quick Attack to return to the ground in an instant. He bowed before his audience, to show his conclusion.

"Oh, wow," Companion said in awe. "That was magnificent! You could be a real terror on the contest circuit, you know? Even if you don't do well in the gym, I'd like to coordinate you in a Pok?mon Contest."
Companion was suddenly pensive for a moment. She waited for Crazy Legs' appraisal, then she turned to him and said, "You know, I don't think we discussed the team situation yet. I mean, I had pretty much assumed we'd have our own separate teams like humans do. Not that I won't fight at your side, but you saying the three of us would take on the gym came as a bit of a surprise."

"I agree," said the Hitmonlee aloud in his own respective tongue. If his mouth was visible, it would be a true grin right about now. Looking up, he stared at what he just now realized was the Goldenrod Gym. His mind sifted through the possible opponents they would face and how he and his team could defeat them.
Companion's question finally processed in Crazy Legs' mind. "We are a team like any other, but the trainer himself shall participate in battle."
Crazy Legs glanced at the Eevee over his shoulder, while still facing the huge gym. "Are you ready to earn your meals for life?" He had a very encouraging yet serious tone.

Adel's eyes lit up. Not only was his performance being praised by both of the strangers, he was being promised free meals for life! All to do battle in the gym, which in itself was a treat. He always loved to battle other Pok?mon, though his trainer rarely let him fight. It was always training attacks and routines for the next performance. But when he exchanged blows with an opponent, it was amazing. The rush, the victory, the strength, everything about a battle felt so right. And here was the ultimate chance to prove himself. The Eevee wanted to show his new friends of what he could do.
His adventurous heart passionately on fire, Adel was full of energy. A new kind of strength and spirit was flowing through him, like an old spark that had been recharged and was now uncontrollable. His urge to fight, to win, was stronger than ever before. Perhaps all the denials of battles in his past had calmed his heart down. He loved to perform and make people smile; it brought him joy. However there was just something in his blood that made him yearn for the challenge.
Running circles around the Hitmonlee, Adel happily jumped in the air. "Let's do it! I wanna battle!"

Companion giggled as the little Eevee hopped around excitedly. Before she realised it, his enthusiasm had infected her. She was already pretty excited that day, so she had let her guard down even though it had been up for years. This guard had been slowly lowered ever since she discovered Crazy Legs, and it still wasn't all the way down, but it was just enough to share Adel's fit of glee. She jumped into the air, her gloved hand outstretched and shouted, "Yeah! Let's do it!"
She remained there for a moment, like still frame, stuck in time with the light sparkling down on her as the rest of the world moved around her. Eventually, she got bored of the tableau and floated back to the ground.
"Okay, okay, okay, know what?" she said excitedly. "We need a battle plan or something. A strategy. We can't just rush in unprepared, so we should at least know what techniques we have at our disposal. For instance, I have the Trace ability, and I know Wish, Future Sight, Protect, and Teleport, and I have a Soothe Bell." She scratched the back of her head, giggling nervously. "Oh, man. I'm going to suck so bad." But her scratching hand was soon a fist in front of her, and she wore a determined look. "But I'll do my best! So what if I'm a little rusty? I'm not going down without a fight!"

Crazy Legs reached out and caught Adel by the scruff of the neck in mid-jump as he passed in front of the Hitmonlee. Placing him gently back on the ground immediately, he told his two comrades, inaudibly to focus. This was the first case of him using his telepathy outside of the hospital.
Then, aloud, he spoke. "We cannot know what to do until we know the rules of the gym. To draw up a plan without knowing the rules of the gym and specific battle would prove useless. We shall go in and inquire as to the rules of engagement, devise our plan, and then request a battle." His voice was surprisingly charismatic and determined considering his condition. There wasn't a drop of doubt, worry, or fear in the way he spoke.
"I suggest that you, Companion, handle the talking." He turned to her with an encouraging look on his face. As to be expected of him by now, he began to head towards the gym door without awaiting a reply.
